Recorded in late 1954 and early 1955, this album marks the high point of what some called the "most definitive bop group of the era" until Clifford Brown died in a car accident in 1956. For their second of four albums that Brown and Max Roach recorded together, Clifford Brown & Max Roach brought Harold Land (tenor saxophone) on board with Richie Powell (piano) and George Morrow (bass) to reinforce the rhythm section around Roach. Brown's compositions "The Blues Walk", "Joy Spring" and "Daahoud" are considered some of the best pieces of hard bop, with Bud Powell's "Parisian Thoroughfare" and Duke Jordan's "Jordu" also deserving special mention.
