Pièce en forme de Habanera" is a piece written in 1907 by composer Maurice Ravel for vocals (bass voice) and piano. For this edition, the piece was arranged for Bb clarinet and piano. The piece is inspired by Cuban contradanza and features a characteristic habanero rhythm. Its combination of technical difficulty and expressive depth make it a favorite among clarinetists, and it is an excellent addition to a concert or recital program.
Joseph-Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) was a French composer of Swiss-Spanish origin. He is known as an impressionist composer, but his late works in particular bear strong traces of the emerging modernism, expressionism and neoclassicism.
